Chrono Cross Remastered is about to be announced by PlayStation, according to a new report that also has some pretty substantial evidence backing it up.
The report comes courtesy of VGC, which compiles three sources that say Chrono Cross is the next game PlayStation will remaster. The first of these sources is Irish folk singer Éabha "Ava" McMahon, who recently told an Irish radio station that she recorded a new Irish language theme song for a PlayStation game. She also said she worked with composer Michael McGlynn (of Diablo 3 fame) and his daughter, who sang on the track as well.
That alone wouldn't point to Chrono Cross as the game, except Chrono Cross composer Yasunori Mitsuda revealed in a tweet that he worked alongside McGlynn and his daughter on recording the new track.
The second piece comes from XboxEra's Nick Baker, who recently said in the XboxEra Podcast that PlayStation will reveal Chrono Cross Remastered sometime next month.
“What else I was told—because everyone’s working under the assumption that it’s a PlayStation exclusive—I’ve been told that it’s not," Baker said. "The only word that was used was ‘multiplat’.
“Now, when I hear JRPG and multiplat, I automatically assume PC, PlayStation, Switch, that’s my assumption. That’s not what I was told," Baker added. "All my source said to me was ‘multiplat’. That’s what they said, they told me it wasn’t PlayStation exclusive.”
Finally, the third piece comes from the Nvidia GeForce Now leak from two months ago which listed Chrono Cross as one of the upcoming titles. Nvidia has since confirmed the existence of the leaked list but said that it was merely speculative and not necessarily indicative of new games on the horizon--except that it seems to be pretty good at providing dates for new game releases.
The question I’m sure that will be asked by many fans is why Chrono Cross? Sure, it’s a good game and was critically acclaimed during its time, but it’s not the genre-defying classic that is Chrono Trigger. On the other hand, Chrono Trigger has received quite a few more ports than Chrono Cross, so maybe Square Enix decided it was time to show Cross some love?
PlayStation doesn’t have any events announced for December, but The Game Awards are coming up. We might hear more about this Chrono Cross remake then.
Forza Horizon 5 addresses you by the name on your Microsoft account, but for some trans players, that has unexpected consequences.
